June 9th 2015:

Registration began at 7:30 am. The Inaugural mass was concelebrated at 9am by Bishop Henry D’Souza Chairman, CBCI Council for Youth, Bishop Vincent Mar Paulos Member Bishop, CBCI Council for Youth, Bishop. Joseph Mar Pandarasseril Member Bishop, CBCI Council for Youth, Fr. Franklin D’Souza & Fr. Charles Menezes. Fr. Franklin gave the welcome speech. The dignitaries inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp. Bishop Vincent in his homily said that youth should give taste to the society like the sugar and salt. He quoted Pope Francis ‘Youth are not only the future of the church but also the present’. We are called to make young people Christ’s disciples. We should mould the generation which loves the church. Goal of youth movement should be to improve the intellectual and integral growth of the youth.

After the mass Fr. Franklin introduced the program and requested all the directors to introduce themselves. Fr. Mari introduced Bishop Henry and welcomed him for the key note address. Bishop Henry in his keynote address said that the youth are in a fleeting world where everything looks temporary. They are biased on the basis of religion, caste and language. Youth are in a confused inconsistent state. They are in the midst of enslavement- smoking, drinking and social networking sites. It is our duty to encourage them and to correct them. We have to inspire them. Bishop Joseph Mar Pandarasseril said the directors and animators are dealing with a group of talented young leaders. We have to be a friend of youth. DYD’s can empower, appreciate and correct the youth and all these if we do as a friend they will accept. Youth needs the help of DYD’s and animators. Instead of having formal meetings gave interactive sessions. We need to spare more time with the youth. Bishop Vincent said we need to have a relationship oriented leadership approach. We should suffer with the youth. We need to accompany them. We have to change ourselves instead of changing them. Quality of our life depends on the quality of our relationships.

After the lunch, Fr. Franklin briefed the delegates about the handbook, CBCI Office and ICYM and emphasized the power of the Youth. Fr. Charles took a session on Animator and his role and how to bear lasting fruits. Bishop Henry introduced the Career Advancement Program to be conducted by CBCI Youth Council in collaboration with KROSS. The goal of the program is to empower Indian Catholic Youth with clear vision and mission. To create Catholic political leaders, judiciaries, civil servants, professionals, medical practitioners, engineers, media persons, literature, art, and also in the field of scientific farming and food processing, to mould the strength of character so that they can become achievers and leaders, impart gospel values in them and  boost their self confidence/self esteem is the goal of the program.

Mr. Raymond D’Souza presented his personal report of the activities and support he has extended to the Youth ministry all over India and to the various dioceses. He briefed about the schemes that are available with the government for the minorities and emphasized that we should make full use of it and assured all his support and cooperation in getting them sanctioned.
